Fools, Madwomen, and Lovers: House Concert at No. 77

Announcing our third House Concert at No. 77, on Saturday, 13 February 2016!

HC 021316 for toraklassen.com

In honour of Valentine’s Day, we are plundering the treasure trove of art song to bring the craziest, most romantic, most foolish characters to life before your very eyes! A French poet will make his words take flight to wing his love to his beloved, a snobbish young widow will spurn an upright young man, an androgynous young teenage girl will pour out her pain, confusion and longing into heart wrenching song, and a manipulative, spoiled daughter will threaten to throw herself into the river if her father doesn’t allow her to marry the man she loves.

Musical selections for Fools, Madwomen, and Lovers will include works by Hugo Wolf, Reynaldo Hahn, Benjamin Britten, and Giaccomo Puccini!

For this House Concert at No. 77, we are delighted to feature the wonderful pianists Danbee Ko and Raymond Truong. Both of them will offer you their own solo pieces, and together will perform feisty duets from the most tragically romantic of operas, Bizet’s Carmen!

As usual, there will be delectable treats! At intermission, we will serve up chocolate-dipped strawberries and (gluten free) honey hazelnut cake! If you’d like to bring a bottle of wine or champagne to add to the festivity, please feel free to do so!
